VIDEO: Medina's Backflip

Imagine that you reach the final day of competition and someone makes a mistake and you end up in second.  What would you do?

Well, Gabriel Medina, did a backflip! Yes the kid doesn't stop...

The young Brazilian and prodigy surfer who recently finished the Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2012 in second due to a Juri's controversial decision giving the victory to Julian Wilson, took it personally and this seems to have fueled him to continue his own path towards new surfing maneuvers. Now are there any other maneuvers left? Double backflip perhaps?

VIDEO: Surf in Portugal in the late 20s

It is believed to be the oldest movie reporting surf culture in Portugal in the late 20s, practicing belly board at Leça da Palmeira beach, near Porto.
This film is actually one of the oldest surf footage shot in Europe. The European surf culture was starting to take place in a few summer resorts like Biarritz in France but also in Portugal and Spain.

Rip Curl Pro Portugal 2012 is ON

In 2009 Rip Curl choose Peniche has its revolving event "The Search". Since then, due to the phenomenal surfing and requests from professional surfers, Peniche became a regular event.
Now, every year in October for a period of 10 days, the best surfers of the world are claiming 10 point barrels down in Supertubes Peniche.

VIDEO: Kepa Acero surfinn' Angola

5 Sseas - 5 Continents, a project that Kepa started in search of remote waves and destination is movin' on and now the basque surfer also known for his Globe Trotter surf spirit led him to Angola after having surfed in Namibia in 2010 and comin' from recent experiences in Indonesia and the Andaman (India).
Angola is still not a very tourism-friendly destination due to all the Visas and hassles on arrivals...also a very expensive destination and where the surf lifestyle still is not there at all. Coming from a long period of Civil war, Angola is still an emerging country with many natural resources like diamonds, gold and Oil which are shaping a new country...but it also has good waves.
Kepa waited almost two months for the visa, but finally made it, searching for unpublished waves in very special places in close contact with nature, cultures and people.
Below is only the teaser, the full video will be posted here...soon.

Surfinn Surfcamps launch campaign in the Maldives…

Surf Travel

Surf'Inn dedicated to the most competitive prices

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 20 June, 2012 : - - Surfinn Surfcamps has recently launched its newest surf destination: the Maldives! The surf travel company has long been planning its presence in the region after realizing that the prices were unachievable for most surfers.

Pedro Quirino (Surfinn’s managing director) mentioned that “…some of the current prices are too high. We managed to offer the same services and conditions sometimes for half the price!” Pedro has also announced the new goal for the company. “Our main concern is to have the most competitive prices in all the surf destinations we operate. If you find something cheaper, let us know and we’ll do something about it!”

We all know the Maldives offer some of the best waves, blue crystal waters, and warm temperatures all year round, but sometimes the most famous spots are more crowded than Cornwall in the summer. At Surfinn, we will specially promote Central Atolls to bring back the position of Maldives as a paradise for surfers, where for example you can have a breakfast on a desert island before heading to a remote surf break and then spend time with friends resting in white sandy beaches on one of the many desert islands.

On the Maldives, Surfinn will have the exclusivity of a small fleet operated by a local partner enhancing service and the overall experience by welcoming every single guest at the airport and making the arrival experience stress-free and fast reaching the yacht or islands.

For the moment, Surfinn is operating with a surfari boat for up to 12 people with the most competitive prices in the region; two luxury yachts with amazing facilities and comfort for up to 24 people; a guest house and surf camp in front of Cokes, one of the best surf spots in the Maldives; and a luxury resort with an exclusive access to Lohi’s long left wave.

Among the crew that Surfinn recently led to the Maldives is Francisco Canelas, the Portuguese surfer who returned to devote himself to the competition, one of the protagonists in a short film and soon to be launched in the Maldives Surfinn page.

Surf travel trends: Tailor-made surfing experiences

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 8 January, 2012 : - - Where to find the right combination of waves? Which accommodation to select from? Flights? Surf lessons? Want camel riding also? Perhaps gastronomy or yoga classes?

In the past few years Surfinn Surf camps – a branded surf camp network – envisaged a branded surf camp chain based on specific standards and values offering surfing experiences. Pedro Quirino, the company manager says that Surfinn has carefully experienced and selected every destination, surf camp, team member and suppliers we work with, in order to provide the best surfing experience. “We design our customers’ trips and knowing the product is the key to meet their expectations.”
Pedro says also that travelers look for unique experiences when selecting their surfing holidays and the decision lies over an entire set of activities and facilities that compose the surf trip. “Everyone tries to make the next surf trip the most memorable or at least one of a kind surfing trip”.
He goes on saying that when Surfinn was created, 4 years ago, surfers were looking for new destinations and they were very flexible regarding the accommodation, prices and itinerary; basically more flexible with the whole experience.
Nowadays, surf travelers are more exigent and demanding than ever before, looking for the best value-for-money. “The conscious mind-set of taking the best decision is itself part of the experience and most of the times surf travelers don’t meet their expectations by booking with generic websites that offer thousands of surf camps and are nothing more than directories. These companies are databases and they add destinations without ever going there so how can they recommend anything? At Surfinn we brand a surf camp! We brand an experience!”
The next destinations offering tailor-made surfr trips offered by Surfinn will be the Maldives and Sri Lanka, but other places are also on the map. “We have teamed up with many agents and members that travel to many surfing destinations to evaluate the destination, yet finding the right partners providing the best facilities, in consistent and solid breaks is not easy task and definitely we do not find them by going to directories”.

Search the unknown but leave it the way you found it

Surfinn Mundaka
Back to basics is again the new surf travel trend!
But this time with environmental focus!
'Search the unknown but leave it just the way you found it! Untouched'

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 6 April, 2012 : - - Surfinn Surfcamp’s slogan could be the motto for any travel campaign, but with the summer almost there, Surfinn Surfcamps is again reinforcing the promotion for sustainable surfing experiences, especially when going back to basics is becoming again the trend.

Travelling light, keeping it simple, being close to the nature and searching for hidden beaches are again some of the features of the surf traveler. And the search as a way of travelling is becoming more mainstream due to better accessibility, road signs, GPSs, Internet and the word-of-mouth.
Joao from Surfinn Surfcamps, believes these factors are all adding interest and a real value to surf travel experiences. However, he points out that the lack of attention and control by local authorities is causing many environmental problems to these sensitive destinations.
“In the summer, statistics say that more than 37 thousand caravans drive all the way to the Algarve, with most of them not using appropriate camping parks. Many of these protected places are not being protected at all, as some bad examples of caravanning and camping at the beach have been reported by local citizens.

Vandalism and rubbish left at a Costa Vicentina beach, Algarve's natural Park

Unfortunately, these cases are becoming very popular nowadays with campers and caravans even going further by setting up illegal businesses renting beds and serving as food and beverage mobile outlets for entire seasons. Camping at the beach is an amazing thing to do, but unfortunately it does not bring any benefits to the local community and especially because most of the time, tourists leave something behind.”
Joao continues, saying that insecurity and lack of beach infrastructures like toilets, lifeguards or police in some places are another reason why tourists should be even more careful, but instead these are the beaches these tourists are choosing to spend their vacations. Surfinn Surfcamps encourages camping says the company manager, but in appropriate places, where the usage of detergents, soap, shampoos and other products do not affect the soil.
“As part of the travel chain, we need to make sure we contribute to the protection of these areas and we are doing it since the beginning by getting involved with local associations to fight these abuses and showing local authorities the double negative impact that results from both environmental degradation and also from the bad image left to the next tourists and users of these protected areas.
But does that mean we cannot have the privilege to stay on a remote destination and find the unknown safely? Joao, answers to that question immediately saying: “ask our clients!, of course you can and that is why we do not work with mainstream surf camps, schools or accommodation. We look to offer authentic experiences and we believe that is possible to find on a Surfinn Surfcamp, which apart from the surf spirit, you will benefit from the coziness of being on a natural but sustainable environment.
